We left our home state of Michigan in 07 for a teaching job. My husband was laid off by Lowes. His boss, Dave, laid him off over the phone while we were in the ER with our son who was having an asthma attack. I was 8 months pregnant. We left our entire family behind to move to Florida, a state where crime rules. We have to live in a high rent, gated community in order to be safe and protect our kids. He teaches kids whose parents don’t provide supplies and food so we spend our own money buying these kids what they need. We are on food stamps which runs out before the next cycle. We pay $600 a month for insurance. He makes under 40K a year. We participate in a community program for poor kids, helping, not receiving. I do my own hair and nails. I eat junkfood so my kids can eat healthy stuff. I homeschool because I don’t have the money to waste on gas I waste sitting in the car loop. We want to leave this armpit of a state and go home. My parents have health issues and I need to be there for them. I still dream of punching DAVE in the face for all he has done to us.
WE ARE THE 99% AND SO ARE THE KIDS HE TEACHES!
