I am a 20 year old college junior. I have over $15,000 in loans because my financial aid was cut. I was forced to quit my job when classes began because the company adapted a new availbility policy. ¾ths of my boyfriends paycheck goes to rent. Our cellphones were cut off 3 weeks ago. I just received a disconnection notice for our electricity. Somedays, I don’t have enough gas in my car to make it to class. I am underqualified for every job I apply for. I am overqualified for McDonalds, according to the manager who interviewed my. My bank account is negative and my credit cards maxed out. We can’t afford the minimum payments on our bills. My boyfriend has permanent nerve damage in his spine, but is forced to do backbreaking labor. We cannot afford his prescriptions, much less the surgery that he needs. His moms fiancee just inherited a million dollars but refuses to help because “we need to learn to fix our own problems.” My stepfather just lost his job and my mother makes minimum wage. My sister gets 15 hours every two weeks because of labor cuts at her job. Tonight for dinner, I’m making Ramen noodles.
