We are the 99 percent. We are getting kicked out of our homes. We are forced to choose between groceries and rent. We are denied quality medical care. We are suffering from environmental pollution. We are working long hours for little pay and no rights, if we're working at all. We are getting nothing while the other 1 percent is getting everything. We are the 99 percent.

I am 19 years old, a junior at a well-known university and support myself financially.  I am paying for my Bachelor’s Degree completely on my own. My parents can barely afford their bills let alone mine, but since I’m not an orphan or a ward of the state I still don’t qualify for much financial aid.

I work over 40 hours a week as a department manager at a retail chain.  I take over 18 credit hours of class work so I will be able to graduate on time, and not accumulate more student debt.  All while doing this I maintain a 3.5 GPA. I am a full-time student with a full-time job, working on poverty level wages to survive.

When I graduate in May 2013, I will have over $60,000 in student debt.

I have two younger sisters and a little brother.  They see how hard I have to work to achieve the “American Dream”, and they wonder if it’s really worth it to invest in their education.

I don’t know what to tell them.

I am the 99%, and I will not stand to see my siblings suffer while the rich continue to get richer.
