We are the 99 percent. We are getting kicked out of our homes. We are forced to choose between groceries and rent. We are denied quality medical care. We are suffering from environmental pollution. We are working long hours for little pay and no rights, if we're working at all. We are getting nothing while the other 1 percent is getting everything. We are the 99 percent.

I am 29 years old. I grew up in Michigan, and these issues have affected my family for my ENTIRE LIFE. My father is a skilled machinist who spent at least part of every year laid off. I have worked since I was 14. I put myself through college, and graduated at the top of my class, the first student to major in my chosen field.

After my divorce in 2006, I was hospitalized twice for suicidal depression. I am not cured, I just can’t afford treatment anymore. I haven’t had insurance since I was 18 and on my parents’ policy.

I have 5k in credit card debt from trying to move away from Michigan, in search of a better life. I do not own a house, property, or a car.

Now I am more in debt than ever. I moved to NYC in March of 2009, and was laid off from my job here in March 2010. I am still unemployed and can’t even get hired bartending or waiting tables. My $100,000 BFA with Honors is USELESS.

The $14 in my bank account was borrowed from my mother, a small business development counselor back in Michigan. Believe me, she doesnt have the money to loan out in the first place.

I cant afford groceries, and I am HUNGRY.

I AM SCARED.

I AM SICK.

BUT I AM CLEARLY NOT ALONE.
