I am a Chinese American. I’ve been in the US for 30 years now. I have 4 kids, and in order to support them, I have to take up part-time work. Our family income is mainly supported through my husband’s restaurant job, which only provides a meager income. Now, all of our kids have graduated from college, but because of the negative effects of the economic downturn, my daughters can’t find work. Also, because of my husband’s long term restaurant work, his health has suffered and he’s unable to work now. And then it’s all compounded with the effects of gentrification, such as our landlord’s unending harassment. Last year our rent was raised twice. We are the 99%.
